The Spanish National Competition Commission, known as the CNC, said it had opened infringement proceedings against Schindler, Zardoya Otis, Ascensores Eninter SL, Ascensores Imem SL and Industrial Elevacion SA for possible anti-competitive conduct.

“This conduct consists of hindering competitor activity in the market by sending communications to customers containing misleading and damaging information on competitors' performance in the maintenance and supply of spare parts, and/or acts of incitement to breach of contract intended to eliminate competitors from the market,” the CNC said.

The probe stems from information provided by a company called City lift Ascensores and a complaint lodged by a property owners' association, according to the competition authority, which added that it had a maximum of 18 months to investigate and resolve the case.

The CNC said there was prima facie evidence that the companies might have run afoul of the Spanish Competition Act.
